Children Experiment with Makey Makey at the Library

makey-makey

Friends of the Smithers Library - The kids in the photo were experimenting with the Makey Makey and discovered on their own that they could pass an electrical current through multiple people. they then used this knowledge to play a piano program on a computer with the Makey Makey by tapping Maddy while Tess and Ella held onto the Makey Makey's cords. We have enjoyed watching the excitement and creative thinking generated by these hands-on methods of learning.

An enormous thank you for the $1200 grant!

We were so happy to receive your email confirming the Foundation would support this project aimed at both relocating and rebooting the Smithers HELP Office currently located in the local hospital. We strongly believe in the benefit both increased access and additional equipment for loan will bring to the community, and are very glad you believe in it too.

It's kind of an aside, but after writing hundreds of grants for Foundations around the province I've noticed something about small towns and their local supporters. When a Foundation like the BVCF supports a project, the impact is very often felt far beyond simply the funding. Because the entire Smithers HELP operation is 100% volunteer-run, volunteers feel a grant approval is a public acknowledgement that the time they give is valued, and that local decision-makers recognize that what they do is important. We're going to make sure not only those volunteers know how awesome you and the BVCF team are, we'll also do our best to let every HELP client know as well.

So to each of you - Geri and the team of decision makers who are going to help make

this project happen, thank you!

Hope Air

September 30, 2015

We received the $3000 gift from the Bulkley Valley Community Foundation last month for the flights to specialized medical care that we've arranged this year for residents of the Bulkley Valley.

Thank you for supporting us again this year - we really appreciate it! And here is a message from one of our clients:

"Hope Air, thank you so much. It has been a real blessing, having an organization like yours to be able to take some of the pressure off when you have a sick child. We have travelled through you a number of times and we really appreciate all you have helped us with."

BV Art Gallery Pop-up Tent

November 9, 2015

Final Report to the Bulkley Valley Community Foundation

"The gallery applied for funds to purchase a pop-up event tent to allow the summer art camps and free Saturday drop in art activities for children to take place outside and for use when the Gallery provides free art activities for the public during the Main Street Festival and the Town's Canada Day celebrations. We are delighted with the tent – due to production difficulties it arrived later than scheduled so we were not able to use it this past summer as planned, but we greatly look forward to putting it to use.

We greatly appreciate the funds awarded to us by the BV Community Foundation and were pleased to acknowledge your support with your logo on the side of the tent, as well as on our Facebook page and on our website.

Thank you for your support."

Sincerely,
